Using JWG
How to join and post
As the new JWG WordPress software may be unfamiliar to many of our visitors, I have written this mini-tutorial to get you started. Screenshots of each process are linked to beside each point. To return to this tutorial at any time, click on Using JWG, in the Information section on the sidebar: tutorial screenshot
-
Login or Register
- On the main front page, click on the login or register link: screenshot 1
- If this is your first visit to us, click on register, and you will be taken to a screen where you are asked for a login (username) and email address. A password will be emailed to you. Use this and your username to login: screenshot 2
- When you return in future, either let your browser remember you with a cookie, (in which case the login/register links will have been replaced by User Control Panel and Logout), or login with your username and password each time.
- When you login for the first time, you will arrive at the Dashboard page. This has links to all the areas of the user control panel, (sometimes referred to as the admin panel), to which you have access: screenshot 3
- If you use cookies, your browser should remember you and keep you logged in on subsequent visits. To access the User Control Panel at any time, (to write a post or make any changes to your profile), just click on “User Control Panel” in the JWG section on the sidebar: screenshot 4
- On your first visit, you will want to change your password to something you can remember, so when you have logged in, click on Users, and change your password in your profile: screenshot 5
-
Write a Post
- Click on User Control Panel, (see screenshot 4 above), and click on Write, which brings you to the post entry screen: screenshot 6
- Write your post, as shown in screenshot 7
- There are various formatting options open to you either using quicktags or basic html, so you may want to explore these first
- You can just type your message and hit publish, of course!
- A post saved message appears next to a View site link. Click on the link and you will be taken to your post: screenshot 8
- OR:
- Tip: To keep the User Control Panel open after you have posted your message, right click on the “View site” link, and open it in a new window/tab/page, depending on which browser you are using. You can then check out your post, and easily get back to the dashboard area if you need to. screenshot 9
- If you have made a mistake, you may correct it by using the edit link underneath your post: screenshot 10
- If you would like to post a graphic you have created, but it is too large to add to your post, why not upload it to the Gallery in the Your Creations section? You can then simply link to the url in your post, so we can all go and see it:
-
Add a Comment
- It is now not necessary for you to register to add a comment, although a valid email address is required.
- You may wish to add a reply (comment) to a post that is already published:
- Underneath each post on the main pages is a link with the number of previous comments shown, or if there are none yet, it will say ‘no comments’, and either Read/Add or just Add. Click on this link: screenshot 11
- Alternatively, you may also click on a post’s title:
- You will be taken to a page containing the post, and a comment form underneath: screenshot 12
- Enter your comment in the box provided. You may format your comment in the same way as you do when writing a post, (some quicktags are also provided for you here, but again you can just type your text if you wish).
- Click Submit, and your comment will be published underneath the post:
