Beginners guide to CSS and Standards

11th March 2007 @ 20:29

In my ongoing quest to learn my proposed trade of web development, I make daily travels through the web-dev blogosphere, reading as many useful articles as time permits. Today, I was directed to this website which was new to me, Friendly Bit. This is a website about Web Development, and under the tutor section, I came across this article:
Beginners guide to CSS and Standards.
A few people have been talking to me about the difficulties of moving away from tables, and putting all their styles into a style sheet, recently. I think this article is an excellent place to start, as it guides you through the process of building a simple css stylesheet and basic html template, to create your first standards based website.
I wholeheartedly recommend all prospective webmasters to go and read it, as you might just as well learn how to do it properly from the start, instead of having to unlearn bad habits later.
And even if you have learned a few bad habits, (nested tables and spacer gifs, anyone? ), you can always reform yourself, can’t you?
(After all, I did! :star: ).

WasP Task Force: WTF

1st March 2007 @ 18:36

WasP stands for the Web Standards Project.
They are now launching a WasP Task Force, and want to introduce a more open, inclusive WasP, so that you and I can get more involved. How?

Free Online Storage

23rd February 2007 @ 17:09

Anyone notice a theme in my recent posts? That’s right, the linking word is free
Today’s special offer(!) is free, online storage in the form of Free online storage
This site is offering 1GB of free, online storage for all your documents, pictures, videos and so on. The maximum file size you can upload is 10mb, and if you need more than 1GB, you can pay for extra storage at a cost of $5, or $10 per month for 5, or 15GB storage. (It is cheaper if you pay annually).
If you would like to give this a try, please can you click on the image above, or the one on the sidebar, as it shows that I have referred you, and I qualify for a free upgrade if a few folk sign up.
(Yes, there is always a catch, isnt there? but I am being honest with you all about my interest here  )

Let us know about your experiences with this storage, if you do sign up.

Text a bit small?

30th August 2006 @ 18:48

Is the text on this website a bit small and difficult to read? :(
If so, did you know that you can do something about it yourself?
It involves increasing the text size on your browser.
Read this article to find out how to do it:
Setting up your Browser

Site Upgrade

17th June 2006 @ 19:52

The JWG website is in the process of moving webhosts, (not by choice, sadly!), and each section is being moved/upgraded in turn. –> Done!
The main blog section is now functioning relatively correctly, but unfortunately the resources directory was unable to be moved in its current form, and needs a total re-install and upgrade using new software.–> Done!
JWG Tutorials can now all be accessed via their own index page on the blog, and the main site map.
I will of course be working tirelessly on restoring the links and resources directory as soon as possible.–> Done!
Thank you for your patience and understanding while areas of the site are inaccessible/broken.
Don’t you just love moving house???

:star: ::UPDATE:: :star:
I now believe that I have managed to restore all sections of JWG to their former glory, in our new home.
Please dont hesitate to email me, or add a comment here if you find anything still doesnt work as advertised.
Thanks again for bearing with me during this fraught time! :headbang:
