Welcome to Jewels Web Graphics

Please use the Information section on the sidebar--> to help you find your way around the site, particularly the Using JWG tutorial if you are new to blogging, and wish to join us.

Tech news, Scobleizer, IE7 and more

Some people who are reading this, (waves to the three of you  ) may be aware that I have been attempting to broaden my internet horizons for some time now. In fact, this journey probably actually began when I started my IT degree course in 2003, and realised that there was more to the web than just making pretty graphics to display on it. Yes, I know that is what JWG is known and recognised for (if it is known at all  ), and the ‘web graphics’ in the site name is a bit of a give-away, but…….
I am very pleased that I can still be of help to those of you who are just discovering the joys of graphics, animation et al, but also hope to encourage at least some of my visitors to consider exploring other aspects of the web, and indeed computing in general. To that end, I have provided a blogroll, webnews, and bookmarks on the sidebar –> which contain a selection of interesting sites and feeds that, (in my ever so humble opinion), are well worth a read, and perhaps also subscribing to, on your own website/blog, newsreader. Many of these bloggers/writers provide us with considerable information and food for thought, about the ever-expanding world of technology. One such person that I want to draw your attention to today, is Robert Scoble. Mr Scoble works as a technical evangelist for Microsoft, and as I wouldnt necessarily count myself as one of Microsoft’s biggest fans, I didnt initially expect to be drawn to his blog. However, I found Scobleizer-Microsoft Geek blogger through a link from WaSP, (I think), originally, and began to read his postings with at first, scepticism, and then, genuine interest. I now subscribe to his blog feeds through my web browser (Opera 8.5, since you ask), and have learned a great deal from his blog, and the comments posted to it. Today he has opened a blog on Wordpress, in addition to his original main blog, and I think you should pop over and have a look for yourselves. He doesnt just write about Microsoft, by the way, but about all things technical, on and off the web.
Also, if you are interested in web browsers, and want to know in advance about the new IE7, why not have a look at IEBlog where you can find out lots of interesting snippets about what will be supported, what wont be, and more besides.
Comments welcome on anything you may discover on your journey out into the big bad web….

Hello- I’ve just downloaded Opera. I tried mozilla but then it had some glitches & I couldn’t use it to do some things at different sites so I lost it. I’m going to try Opera tho as I’m sure it is a good thing to not depend on one browser. In the past I had used Netscape & IE but eventually just ended up using IE for convenience. IE is fine except for all the added work to keep it patched. And we all know it is targeted. Plus I just like knowing other programs & software. It would be awful for me to fall into a rut & miss out on the fun of it all.

Jewel I made a css page—found the site from one of your links. Not sure if directly or if I clicked on a link on a site…… but it turned out decent for a first.

Well you have to start somewhere dont you?
I really like Opera myself, but also use Firefox regularly too. For the odd page that wont work properly (usually because it has been badly coded), I will switch back to IE. You can add little buttons to Opera that allow you to open the page you are viewing, in IE if you need to. Can be very handy and is more likely to stop you going back to IE and forgetting the others.
Choice is the key here, I think.
BTW, can we see your css page or isnt it ready for public viewing yet?
