Post Queries and Chat

As Nikki has had a lot of queries regarding the nitty gritty of posting in the blog, and as they all arrive on the home page, I am going to move them all to this one thread so that the home page doesnt fill up with how-to posts. Can we all use the comments on this one thread now for any questions of this nature, and the Check in here thread for general chatting? Thanks, folks.

I am copying Nikki’s questions here so that I can answer them all together.
    Q1:

Jewel, I keep coming up with more questions. I’m sorry, I really don’t mean to be a nuisance either. How do you know if your post is going to be on the front page? Is it whenever you start a new one perhaps? Also, I’ve tried the ‘more’ tag 3 or so times & I don’t think I have that down yet either. Tho I really want to learn that so that you don’t have to do it. And…when you put the tag in do you close it before the text that is to be continued or after?

    Q2:

I found the more tag on the Write page but couldn’t find it in the quick answer. Therefore I’m posting this to see if I just put in the more tag
will it work as if I pushed the button. It (the more tag) may not work but I have to try it. Looking at it tho I knew it wouldn’t work. Nosed around somemore & bingo (hopefully!) there was a “code” button. Ta da. or not Ta da? I’ll click save & we’ll all know.

    1. All new posts appear on the front page, so I think it is best if we group how-tos and chat together in single threads using comments, rather than making separate posts for each one.

    2. The more button can only be used in a post, and not a comment. You click the more button in the exact place you want your post to be truncated on the front page.

    3. Be very careful how you use the code button. It is only designed to be used around snippets of code, when you open it before the html/php/javascript code you want to display, and close it afterwards. When you used it in your post, you turned half the text on the blog into code..
No, I dont know how you managed it either….

Blogs are a bit different from forums and ordinary message boards. I have decided that the best use of them is to use posts for main subjects, and comments as a thread for discussions. In that way, when you come to the site, you only see the main posts on the home page, and can go into comment threads on topics that interest you.

I think I have covered everything here, but if not, just add a comment here with your questions.
